Hi and welcome to my review of the Outwell Montana 6 Person Tent. Please note that the model shown in this review is the new 2019 version of this tent. There are previous years versions of this tent.
This tent has been one of Outwells most popular tents in recent years and as you will see in the following review, there are many reasons why when you look at some of the great features it boasts.
This is a steel-framed tent with more vertical sides than some other tents this size. This allows for more floor space to be utilised for either storage or layout of living and bedroom areas. The tent also has a fully sewn-in groundsheet to help keep bugs and draughts out.
The fully opening front means you can really open up the living space on good days or even just use the full mesh doors to let lots of air in the tent. The 2 side doors also provide added layout options as you can choose to keep one closed for added floor space in the living area.
One side door has an additional porch/canopy area to allow for entering and exiting the tent in wet weather without getting the living area wet. This is also a welcome addition to store wet gear out with the main tent.
The large tinted windows let lots of light in while reducing the glare. Windows give you a good panoramic view and all have privacy curtains that can be toggled closed or rolled down and toggled neatly away during the day.
The very spacious ambassador bedrooms are extra deep. This is great if you use either framed or inflatable beds for your sleeping comforts as the extra space and deep sides allows that little bit more room than other tents and will reduce the chance of wearing out the fabric with it rubbing against your beds.
Structure: This tents structure consists of steel poles for the main tunnel tent and fibreglass for the canopy over one of the side entrance doors.
Guy Lines: Pre-attached guy lines on all sides for added rigidity. Guy line points are reinforced to help in high winds.
Fabrics The fabric used on the Montana tent is the Outtex® 6000 Pro, polyester material with taped seams. The groundsheet is made from a double-coated polyethylene material and is 100% waterproof
Cable Entry: The tent has an EHU cable entry point.
Windows: The Montana tent has large panoramic windows on 3 sides to let in plenty of light and each comes with their own privacy curtain that can be togged in place for privacy when needed.
Windows do have a slight tint on them to help reduce glare.
Doors: There are 3 entry points to this tent. One large front entrance and a side door on each side of the tent. One side door also has a canopy so you can come and go in the rain without letting water into the tent. This is also ideal to keep wet shoes and clothes out of the tent.
Ventilation: Lots of ventilation throughout this tent including a large guyed out ventilation panel to the rear of the bedrooms and also some ventilation panels below the windows.
Bedrooms: There are 2 large bedrooms in this tent that use a slightly darker material to help reduce the amount of light on first sunlight. Outwell calls these their Ambassador Master Bedrooms and each room will sleep, 3 people.
The bedrooms also have great storage pockets on each side.
Living Area: The living space in this tent is generous. Having pre-shaped steel poles helps give this tent an even larger feel as very little space is wasted as the sides of the tent slope less allowing greater storage and layout options.
Optional Extras: The Outwell Montana 6P has optional extras such as carpet and footprint and it is worth noting that many retailers may offer package deals that will include these. Buying a package deal often saves you money when all are bought together.

It is easy to see why the Outwell Montana 6P has become a popular tent with campers over the years. We love how this tent is designed to stand up to most adverse weather and all the little features that make it that little bit more comfortable such as higher storage pockets in rooms, tinted windows and larger bedrooms.
The darkened material in rooms help a little but don’t keep out that much more light. So, if like me you are a light sleeper, and this bothers you may still need an eye mask for that little bit of extra time in bed in the mornings.
A great tent for any family with plenty of space.
