Outdoor & Camping Stores
In this post, we have tried to list as many camping and outdoor stores that we could, that sell camping gear and tents as a minimum or included in their range. We have tried to list stores that are both on the high street and online. Here we have linked the name (highlighted in blue) to their website to allow you to go and search for a store near you or if they are only available online we will state that under the store name.
As with all products it can be best to shop around and where buying a tent is concerned we think that being able to see them pitched is super important. We have tried to mention if they do have tents on display in their stores and if this isn’t mentioned it may be worth checking with them online or by phone before your visit.
Attwoolls, who are based in Gloucester, is one of the largest independent, family-run, outdoor shops. Selling a range of tents, awnings, camping equipment as well as caravan and motor home accessories and equipment.
Bell Tent Boutique is an online company that cater for the glamper. Glamping has become really popular in the last few years and Bell Tent Boutique can help you get that all-important luxury feel when you are sleeping under canvas. They started selling canvas bell tents but now have a good range of products including stoves, lighting, mats, and rugs, flashing kits and wooden glamping products.
Berghaus are well a well known brand for delivering quality, outdoor clothing, footwear and accessories to suit all seasons. So if you are looking for quality waterproofs or even a rucksack for going off exploring for the day Berghaus will have it covered.
Blacks are both online and in the high street with shops across the UK. Blacks now come under the umbrella of Ultimate Outdoors. Selling clothing, footwear and outdoor gear and equipment for a range of activities including camping.
Camping World is a family run business although they do have stores in Horsham (superstore), New Forest and Romford. All stores have dedicated tent display areas to allow you to really see what each tent has to offer. Display areas are open throughout the camping season for their customers to peruse until their heart is content. They also value their online customers and ship worldwide. They are proud of their whole company and offer great customer service and care, and you wouldn’t really expect anything less in a family-owned and run business.
Decathlon is a large sports retailer that now have an extensive range of their own tents and camping equipment on offer as well as clothing and equipment for many other sports and outdoor activities. Their own brand for these products and their tents and camping equipment and accessories is Quechua. Most Decathlon stores have a tent display area on the grounds of their stores.
Go Outdoors is one of the largest and well-known outdoor equipment suppliers in the UK. With everything, you need for camping as well as many other outdoor pursuits you may partake in while on your camping trips or at other times. Go Outdoors have tent display areas in many of their stores both inside and outside on their grounds to allow you to properly get the feel of some tents they stock.
The Great Outdoors Superstore, who are based in the north of England, having stores in both Newcastle and Shiremoor that have been selling outdoor equipment and jackets for around 30 years now. They also have a fair range of camping equipment and you can also purchase online if their stores are too far for you to travel to. They do stock some big brand names but their camping gear and tents are mainly Vango.
Millets are both online and in the high street with shops across the UK. Millets now come under the umbrella of Ultimate Outdoors. Selling clothing, footwear and outdoor gear and equipment for a range of activities including camping.
Mountain Warehouse is another good outdoor and recreational equipment retailer that also sells camping equipment. Mountain Warehouse has been developing and selling their own branded clothes and equipment since 1997 and have stores and customers worldwide. By stocking and selling their own equipment they are cutting out the middleman and are able to keep costs down and pass this on to their customers. Mountain Warehouse is both on the high streets and online.
Outdoor World Direct has a good range of tents and camping equipment and stock some big-name camping brands that we know here in the UK. They have a showroom in Wakefield, Yorkshire where you can see many of the tents they sell pitched to get a better feel for them before making a purchase. You can also order online through their website.
Although the Sports Direct shops on your local high street may have a very limited amount of camping gear in-store, and this is normally stowed away in some corner, you can shop online for camping gear. Sports Direct online has a larger range of camping equipment including cookware, furniture, stoves, and tents. Gelert is the main make of camping equipment that they sell but you will also find some others depending on what you are looking for.
Tiso originally founded by a Scottish mountaineer due to the lack of quality climbing gear in the UK set up shop in 1962. The shop has gone from strength to strength over the years and now supply gear for almost every outdoor sport and activity on offer including camping. Known for their Outdoor Experience shops that have test stations for stoves, waterproofing as well as a climbing wall and often a cafe inside you can get a little carried away while shopping there.

World of Camping
Starting out as a small shop in Cornwall some years ago World of camping changed with the times and grew to a large online retailer of camping and outdoor equipment. Selling a vast range of camping, caravanning, and outdoor equipment with an aim at providing for great family holidays, they pride themselves on their customer service and say it is always at the forefront of what they do. Although they trade on an international scale they do try to keep their stock diverse but their prices competitive.
