Beastie Be Gone – All Natural Insect Repellent Review

I want to share with you today my experience with an all-natural insect repellent called Beastie Be Gone. This is a midge, mosquito, insect repellent and after sun salve that also has an SPF 15 and is produced by Anderson Aromatics.

Do you love the outdoors and camping but always get bitten by midges and/or mosquitoes? Me too, and over the years I have tried many products, took garlic tablets every day and covered up if the little blighters are likely to be out. Some helped, some worked a little and some were just not worth the money. So, I jumped at the chance to try a new, all-natural insect repellent in the hope it would help put an end to insect hell and allow me to enjoy the outdoors at any time. Read how we got on with this new product and if we would recommend it to fellow campers and outdoor enthusiasts.

How We Heard of the Product

I was on Facebook scrolling along when a particular post from another camping page caught my eye. Someone was looking for a few testers to test out their all-natural insect repellent. I read the post and contacted the person, who was Julie Anderson, owner of Anderson Aromatics who makes these all-natural products. I sent Julie a private message asking to be one of the testers explaining that both my wife and I are prone to be bitten. My wife by midges and myself by mosquitoes. I have always had a love of natural products and try to use them where possible and for me, there are very few products that I feel actually stops me being bitten.

Julie agreed to send me a sample of her Beastie Be Gone salve and I agreed that I would provide her with a review. At this point it is worth mentioning this was a sample and completely independent post and review. This is not a sponsored post nor am I affiliated with the product or receiving any payment for this review.

This review is being provided to help others who suffer from being bitten and want to use an all-natural product that is not harmful to them. I have previously written a post on Deet-Free insect repellents that I have tried at some point in the past but have been looking for something more natural that I can use.

Testing Beastie Be Gone

After being in contact with Julie I awaited the arrival of my free sample. When it arrived I couldn’t wait to test it but had to wait a few days as the light breeze and gentle winds were already keeping the little blighters at bay. In the package, there was a small sample tin of Beastie Be Gone, an Anderson Aromatics Card with contact details and a slip of paper with instructions on how to use and ingredients list.

BBG Package

This is a triple-action cream that is

  • An insect repellent
  • Soothing and healing moisturiser
  • SPF15

The cream is anti-fungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic meaning it can also be used to treat insect bites and stings.

Two days after we received the sample pack the weather was just right for all the midges and mosquitoes to come out and feast on us mere humans. We applied the salve as directed before going a walk in our local country park. We chose the park because although it was already hot and humid we knew that being amongst the long grasses, trees and immersing ourselves in nature would provide us with the best chance to fully test this product.

Squirrel in Tree Eating

We walked for well over an hour in the park and you could visibly see all the insects flying about. We ventured off the main path and strolled up the nature trail so we were walking among the trees and wildflowers stopping often to take a few pictures on our phones if we saw something that caught our attention such as a squirrel or bird.

Normally on an evening like this as well as some putting on some Skin So Soft we would normally have put on a long-sleeved top at least to protect ourselves a little more from bites. But with short trousers and vest tops, we both ended up with 1 bite each and both on our heads. Obviously, we hadn’t smeared the cream through our hair and to be honest I was expecting more bites as the air was rife with flying insects. The fact that we had used the product as directed, over all exposed skin was enough to help keep them at bay. For me, this was a miracle in itself.

What We Loved

  • We loved that it was not greasy on your skin and had a soft subtle fragrance. Also, a little goes a long way, we both ventured out in short trouser and vest tops and there was more than enough for us to completely cover our exposed skin.
  • We loved that it has an SPF of 15. Although we consciously use sun care during the day we often forget to top up before heading out on an evening stroll. The sun is still out when we leave so our skin can still be damaged by it. Many insect repellents we have used in the past while protecting you from bites can actually make your skin more prone to being damaged by the suns rays.
  • The fact it comes in a handy little tin and can be easily carried in your pocket or bag.

Why We Would Recommend

  • We would recommend this because it WORKS!
  • It can be hard to find products that work without them being harmful to you or the environment and this ticks both boxes.
  • If you are looking for something more natural I would highly recommend that you give this a try. At £7 it will not break the bank and we think it is worth every penny.
  • As stated above with its antiseptic and antibacterial properties it is also handy for treating bites and stings or using as a salve on grazes if you have no first aid kit with you while out.
  • It is small enough to carry on any camping trip, even while backpacking.

About Anderson Aromatics

Anderson Aromatics was created by Julie Anderson to help share the benefits of all-natural products with a wider population. Julie qualified as a clinical aromatherapist in 2004 after being awarded an SQA Higher National Unit Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy, accredited by the Guild of Complementary Practitioners. This course included the study of Anatomy, Physiology, Swedish & Aromatherapy Massage as well as the intensive study of “The Therapeutic abilities of 50 Essential Oils”.

Julie started to make creams and salves for her friends and family, who many suffered from dry skin conditions. She wanted to show and teach others that natural treatments can work just as well, if not better as those bought over the counter or via prescription. The difference being you were not going to be using harsh and sometimes damaging chemicals on your body.

Julie had a great response from those whom she shared her products with that Anderson Aromatics was born.

All products that are sold are handmade and some can take months of testing to get them just right for production and sale. The products are all-natural and range from soaps and cream to sun care and deodorants.

Julie is quick to let everyone know that her products are that natural that Julie says “you could actually eat them”. That in itself says it all really, you won’t get any more natural than that.

So if this is a product that interests you or you want to check out the other products that Anderson Aromatics sell why not visit the website and have a look around for yourself.

We hope you have found this review useful and we wish Julie all the success with this product, we will definitely be buying some more and maybe even have a free giveaway of the product in the near future.
